Dit sal nie wees soos die verbond wat Ek met hulle voorvaders gesluit het toe Ek hulle aan die hand gevat en uit Egipte laat trek het nie. Hulle het daardie verbond wat Ek met hulle gesluit het, verbreek al was Ek getrou aan hulle, sê die Here.

Dit is die verbond wat Ek in die toekoms met Israel sal sluit, sê die Here: Ek sal my woord op hulle harte skryf en dit in hulle gedagte vaslê. Ek sal hulle God wees en hulle sal my volk wees. ’n Man sal nie meer vir sy buurman of vir sy broer voorhou: ‘Jy moet die Here dien’ nie, want almal sal My dien, klein en groot, sê die Here. Ek sal hulle oortredings vergewe en nie meer aan hulle sondes dink nie.” In Eseg. 11:19 en 20 belowe God oor hierdie nuwe era: “Ek sal hulle ‘n ander hart gee en ‘n nuwe gees onder hulle laat posvat, Ek sal die kliphart uit hulle liggaam verwyder en hulle ‘n hart van vleis gee. Dan sal hulle volgens my voorskrifte leef en my bepalings nakom en daarvolgens optree. Hulle sal my volk wees, en Ek sal hulle God wees.” In Eseg. 36:26 e.v belowe Hy profeties: “Ek sal reinigingswater oor julle uitgooi sodat julle rein kan word. Ek sal julle reinig van al julle onreinheid en van al julle afgodery. Ek sal julle ‘n nuwe hart en ‘n nuwe gees gee, Ek sal die kliphart uit julle liggaam uithaal en julle ‘n hart van vleis gee. Ek sal my Gees in julle gee en Ek sal maak dat julle volgens my voorskrifte leef en my bepalings gehoorsaam en nakom.” Daarom hoor ons hoe Jesus by die instelling van die liefdesmaal Sy volgelinge leer dat wanneer hulle die beker drink, moet dink aan Sy bloed wat vir hulle gestort is. "Hierdie beker is die nuwe verbond, beseël deur my bloed, wat vir julle vergiet word.” (Luk. 22:20)Die Nuwe Verbond het in werking getree die oomblik wat die voorhangsel geskeur het met Jesus se dood aan die kruis. Dit dui daarop dat die skeiding tussen God en mens weggeneem is en dat God die tempel vervang het deur nou Self in die mense te kom woon. Die ou bedeling met ‘n tempel en wette is vervul en bestaan nie meer nie.
